Hello, my name is Dr. Sian Evans. I'm a scientist at Monkey Jungle in Miami, Florida. In this clip we're going to talk about, "What do monkeys eat?" Monkeys eat a wide variety of foods. They eat insects. They eat leaves. They eat fruits. Especially ripe fruits. They will eat gums and chimpanzees have even been known to hunt and eat other monkeys. One thing I know is that monkeys have to work very hard to put together a balanced diet. It is not easy and it consumes most of their waking hours. In captivity of course, primates have it a lot easier, monkeys as well. They are feed commercially available monkey biscuits and these monkey biscuits are typically supplemented by fruits and vegetables. For example, a gorilla, despite the fact he would not eat apples in nature, may very well have the good fortune to snack on a juicy apple in captivity. This is Dr. Sian Evans.
