You should stretch before beginning any martial arts exercise. Learn how to stretch from our Muay Thai expert in this free video clip.
We're going to get into our first stretch now. This is for our quads because once we go into the V stepping, we want to make sure that our legs are nice and stretched out because that's a lot of the strain on the quads. That's the muscle that you're going to be using the most during that. So all you're going to do is you're going to stand up straight, grab one leg, grab one foot, bend at the knee and just pull. You want to make sure you don't have too much of an arch in your back. You want to be right here, sitting. You want to make sure your hips are nice and square, you don't want to turn out or anything like that, nice and straight like this. You're going to do it to the alternate side as well. You're going to take about 20-30 seconds on each side, making sure you feel that from the top all the way down to the bottom. You really want to get them nice and stretched out after you get them warmed up, going to be real important when we cover our V stepping. So after we do the stretch here and we switch over to the other side, you can also do these on the ground where you pretty much sit here and do a cross this way. This is going to cover a lot of the front of the hip as well, not just the top of the quad. So this is going to help stretch our hips as well. We have a number of other stretches for the hips on our third show.
