Proper maintenance of a Toyota Yaris can keep it running for years. Engine oil is required to lubricate the moving parts within the engine. Without oil, the internal parts could overheat, causing extensive damage and costly repairs. Over time, the oil breaks down and looses its effectiveness to lubricate and protect your engine. Frequent oil and filter changes are essential to maintain the Yaris engine and avoid costly repairs.

Oil Plug Torque Specifications

After draining the engine oil, tighten the oil plug to 28ft. lbs. Over tightening the oil plug could damage the oil pan threads or plug threads, making it difficult to remove in the future. The oil plug also could leak oil or fall out of the pan, if the oil plug is not tight enough.

Oil Capacity

When the oil and oil filter are to be replaced, refill the engine oil with approximately 3.9 quarts of 5W-30. Torque the oil filter to 9.5ft. lbs. If the oil filter will not be changed during the oil change, refill the engine oil with approximately 3.6 quarts. Always refer to the marking on the oil dipstick for proper engine oil level.

Oil Change Interval

The "Engine Oil Replacement Reminder Light" light flashes at 4,500 miles. The light stays on at 5,000 miles, until the oil is changed.

Reset the Engine Oil Light

Turn the key switch "On." Press the "Odo/Trip" button until "Trip A" is displayed. Turn the key switch "Off." Press and hold the "Odo/Trip" button, then turn the key switch "On." The odometer digits begin to flash and count down. When the display stops flashing and the odometer equals zero, the oil change odometer has been reset. Turn the key switch "Off."
