Interesting & Informative Speech Topics
Informative speeches don't have to be boring. Choose an interesting, relevant topic that an audience will relate to and the rest will come naturally. (Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images)

Whether it be in high school, college or after finally landing that big career-job, most human beings, at some point in their lives, will be forced to stand in front of their peers and give an informative speech. To some, this may sound like the most intimidating task in the world. To others it may sound downright boring. The key to giving a great informative speech is choosing an informative topic that is also interesting to both speaker and audience. Below is a list of interesting informative speech topics to get the creative juices flowing.

People

The biography of an interesting individual can make an excellent informative speech topic. Political figures, sports legends, actors, musicians, social activists, war heroes, peacemakers, serial killers--the list is endless. Think famous and think notorious. The person doesn't have to be a saint. In fact, the biography of someone with a twisted mind might make for more interesting material. Also consider an informative speech on a particular foreign culture or a group of people with a unique or interesting lifestyle. The more obscure the better.

Places

Far away countries, big cities, national parks---whether local or half a world away---think of a place that others might find intriguing. An informative speech can cover a topic as vast as "the continent of Africa" or as narrow as "bike trails in South Lake Tahoe." Here are a few other places that might make interesting informative speech topics: baseball parks, historical battlefields, hidden islands, ancient tombs, royal palaces, caves, religious temples and churches.

Things

The sky is the limit here, but consider the following "things" as topics for an interesting informative speech: agriculture, technological advancements, performing arts, automotive repair, fashion, global warming, international affairs, astrology, martial arts, tourism, independent filmmaking, video games, wine. This list may be completely random, but it is simply meant to spark ideas. Use any of these ideas as a starting point. Narrow down the topics that seem too broad to come up with a completely original idea.
