The PlayStation 2 features memory cards that are used to house game save data as well as other general data related to your console. This data can be copied between memory cards, deleted from the console, and with the help of an Action Replay MAX device, stored on your computer in case of memory card failure. Gamers should keep two memory cards in case their data becomes corrupt, as this will help prevent any headaches should your 60-hour Final Fantasy X game save accidentally get deleted.

Insert a memory card into your PlayStation 2 and power on the console. Do not place a game disc in the tray or the game will boot automatically.
Select "Browser" from the menu that appears. This will take you to a screen which will show any memory cards inserted into the system. Select the card with the files you wish to change and press "X".
Navigate through the files on the card. Each game file is listed separately and is distinguished by an icon representing the game itself. Press "X" on the file you wish to select.
Choose one of the commands from the list that has appeared. You can either delete the file or copy it. Choosing delete will require you to confirm deletion, which can be done by highlighting "Yes" and pressing "X".
Select "Copy" and the PS2 will create a temporary copy of the file. You will then choose where to paste the file. Insert another memory card into the console and select the new card to paste the file there.
Insert a PS2 Action Replay MAX into the USB port of your PS2. Power on the console with your memory card inserted.
Access the "Browser" and select the file you wish to copy. Choose the Action Replay MAX as the destination and a copy of your game save will be on the MAX.
Power off your PS2 and remove the Action Replay MAX device. Plug it into the USB slot of your computer.
Select the game data from the menu that appears and drag it onto your computer's desktop. This will store a backup of your game save and can be copied back onto your memory card at any time.

- PlayStation 2 owners who also have the PS2 hard drive can move game saves between the hard drive and memory cards. The hard drive can also be used to house additional game data such as installating information for Final Fantasy XI.
