The Mercedes C-Class is primarily made up of four-door sedans and sports sedans. The mid-2000s saw the Mercedes C230 Kompressor, which is a supercharged compact-coupe. This vehicle was produced from 2002 through 2005. The 2002 model is equipped with a 2.3-litre, DOHC, four-cylinder engine. The 2.3-litre was replaced by a 1.8-litre DOHC engine in 2003 and remained through 2005.

2002

2002 is the introductory year for the C230 Kompressor, which has the best performance numbers of its production life. The 2.3-litre engine produces 192 horsepower at 5,500rpm and 200ft.-lb. of torque at 2,500rpm. This year is, however, the worst year for fuel economy. The 2002 C230 gets 17mpg in the city and 26mpg on the highway. This model year goes from zero to 60mph in 7.75 second, and comes to a complete stop from 60mph in 124.06 feet.

2003

The 2003 model sees a drop in power but starts getting an increase in fuel economy as the 2.3-litre is replaced by the 1.8-litre, four-cylinder engine. The 2003 C230 Kompressor produces 189 horsepower at 5,800rpm and 192ft.-lb. of torque at 3,500rpm, while fuel economy gets a mild increase with the 2003 C230 getting 19mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway. The track performance did decrease a little from the previous year, going from zero to 60mph in 7.8 seconds.

2004

This year has no real mechanical changes from the previous year. The 1.8-litre still produces 189 horsepower at 5,800rpm and 192ft.-lb. of torque at 3,500rpm. Because of the lack of mechanical changes, the acceleration remains the same, with a zero-to-60-mph time of 7.8-seconds. The fuel economy does get a minor upgrade to 20mph in the city and 27mpg on the highway.

2005

The 2005 model year uses the same 1.8-litre engine from the previous two years. Because of that, the performance numbers remain the same. The C230 Kompressor produces 189 horsepower at 5,800rpm and 192ft.-lb. of torque at 3,500rpm. The 2005 C230 receives another boost in fuel economy, jumping to 21mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway.
