Duracell's Ultra M3 CR2 battery, also referred to as IEC CR17355, is primarily designed for use in cameras and is most typically used in both single lens reflex and point-and-shoot cameras that use film, as opposed to digital sensors. Typically referred to as a "lithium battery," it uses lithium / manganese dioxide chemistry to provide relatively high-power density in a small cell.

Dimensions

Duracell's CR2 battery weighs 11g and is barely over an inch tall. To be exact, it is essentially a cylinder that measures 27mm from the base to the tip of its positive connector and is between 15.1 and 15.6mm in diameter. Its positive connector sticks out approximately 0.7mm from the middle of the battery's top panel.

Power Capacity

Although rated as a 3.0 volt battery, the CR2 typically outputs 3.2 to 3.3 volts when new. Duracell rates its current capacity as 800 milliamp-hours.

Operating Temperatures

CR2 batteries from Duracell are designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -15.6 degrees C below zero to 75 degrees Celsius. Their performance, however, is temperature sensitive, and a battery at room temperature will work approximately three times longer than one at 4 below.

Rated Life

Although Duracell rates the battery to provide 800 milliamps of power, its actual life will vary based on how it is used and on its operating temperature. At room temperature, CR2 Duracells should last for over 700 pictures in a standard 35mm point-and-shoot camera. At a 1 amp drain at room temperature, it should last for 30 minutes, but at a 10 milliamp drain, it should last for 100 hours.
