Fruits in general are healthy for you, but when you have chronic kidney disease, avoid fruits that are high in potassium because too much potassium can gradually damage your heart. High-potassium fruits you should avoid are oranges, kiwis, nectarines, prunes and bananas. Instead, eat apples, berries, plums and grapes.

High-Potassium Vegetables

Like fruits, you should also avoid high-potassium vegetables when managing chronic kidney disease. These vegetables include potatoes, tomatoes, avocados, beets and cooked spinach. Instead, eat broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, garlic and onions.
