A brick fence or wall is one of the most elegant and stately ways to designate a property border, mark off your garden or line your front lawn. Though the choice of entry gate for your wooden or wrought iron fence may be obvious, brick gates are not a practical option for your brick fence. Brick gating should complement the style of the fence and serve your gating needs whether they are for decoration, security or privacy.

Brick is a sturdy building material for garden fencing, and using brick near your garden or country home may appear too harsh and industrial. Soften and brighten the look of a brick garden wall with a white picket gate made of slightly spaced wooden slats. Even short brick walls are given additional charm with miniature wooden gates while larger brick fences are made more inviting with a simple wooden gate as an entry point. Though a T-hinge will secure the wooden gate directly to the brick pillars, a wooden pillar secured to the brick with masonry anchors also provides a latch point for wooden gates.

Wrought Iron

An elegant, high-end brick fence is well suited for an equally sophisticated fence. If your brick wall is at or above eye level, choose a large wrought iron gate as an entry point. Wrought iron is a dark contrast to red brick, and the texture of wrought iron is consistent with the coarse, porous texture of brick. Wrought iron gates create a classic, timeless look when paired with an exterior brick wall, and they are particularly useful if you want a gate that provides security as well as a decorative element. Opt for tall wrought iron gates with embellished balusters and elaborate hardware for additional aesthetic appeal.

Arched Brick

If you want your brick wall to deliver an impressive visual impact, build in an arch over the gate location. Brick arches are well suited for gated driveways, and many news gates can be operated remotely for easy opening and closing. Building in a brick archway requires significant design foresight, so people who build a new brick wall or fence are the best candidates for incorporating arches. After you've completed your arch, opt for a gate with a curved top to fit into the curve of the arch; flat-top fences leave an open space above the gate that allows more light to pass through unobstructed for a less imposing look.
