Many children and adults enjoy music, and making a music-themed birthday party can work for all types of birthday parties. When throwing a music party or musical-themed birthday, create a stage area to be a focal point of the party's decor. Stages can be created outdoors or indoors, or a family could rent out an auditorium for the party.

Indoor Stage

When throwing a music-themed party in your home, clear out the corner of a room to create a homespun stage. The Amazing Moms website suggests purchasing a large piece butcher's paper. Decorate the paper with stars and adorn the stars with glitter. Tack the butcher paper backdrop to one of the walls in the room. Move the furniture away. Purchase a large red sheet. Lay the sheet on the floor to create a "red carpet" lining for the stage. If the party has a musical theme, draw logos and symbols from the musical on poster boards. Cut out the shapes and tack them up around the room. Festoon colourful streamers from the ceiling to complete the stage area.

Outdoor Stage

For a backyard birthday bash, install a karaoke stage to bring life to a rock star themed birthday, suggests the Birthday in a Box website. Hang a clothesline in the backyard. Take a white sheet and draw large speakers on either side of the sheet. Use a staple gun to attach outdoor rope lights around the perimeter of the white sheet. Suspend the background from the clothesline with clothes pins. In the driveway, use sidewalk chalk to draw stars and write the names of the party guests. Make a paper or felt banner with the words "Sold Out Birthday Bash Tonight Only" and hang it above the door. Decorate the yard with clumps of brightly coloured mylar and latex balloons to complete the stage area.

Rented Stage

Rent out an auditorium space for a musical birthday party to avoid the need to create a physical stage area. Consult with the rental company to ensure it is OK to hang decorations and use the stage area for the party. Flank either edge of the stage with large balloon bouquets. Cut large stars from poster board or cardboard. Cover the stars with gold spray paint or glitter paint. Use fishing line to suspend them from the ceiling around the stage area, suggests the Amazing Moms website. Use coloured or white Christmas lights to decorate the front of the stage and enhance the area.
