Hairdressing grants are ideal for students who are currently enrolled in a cosmetology or beauty school or who are taking steps to enrol in such a school. The grants provide monetary assistance to such students without the need for repayment. Not-for-profit organisations, federal student aid programs and individual cosmetology schools offer hairdressing grants.

American Association of Cosmetology Schools ACE Grants

The American Association of Cosmetology Schools is a resource for hairdressers, make-up artist and other beauty industry professionals who are interested in enrolling in a cosmetology school program. The association partnered with industry sponsors as well as the Cosmetology Advancement Foundation and the Beauty and Barber Supply Institute to offer ACE grants to students interested in studying hairdressing and cosmetology. Students should be high school graduates either looking to enrol or already enrolled in an ACE grant school in order to apply for the funds.

Oregon Barber and Hairdresser Grant Program

The Oregon Student Assistance Commission offers barber and hairdresser grants to cosmetology students who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSFA). In order to apply, students must be a resident of Oregon, must be currently enrolled in a hairdressing or barbering program, and must demonstrate a need for financial assistance. The program awards grants to about 90 students each year, and the winning grantees are chosen randomly from among all eligible applicants. Those who win the grant receive a one-time financial award of £390.

Pell Grants

While Pell Grants are a more generalised form of student aid, they are also a type of financial assistance accepted by several cosmetology and hairdressing institutions. The Paul Mitchell Advanced Academy for hairdressers, for example, accepts Pell Grants as a form of tuition payment. Students interested in receiving a Pell Grant should first fill out a FAFSA application. The grants are awarded to students based upon their enrolment status, expected financial contribution and the cost of school attendance. Pell Grants are awarded in amounts ranging from £634 to £3,477. At the Paul Mitchell Advanced Academy, students who apply for a Pell Grant should contact the financial leader at the school to provide notification.
