Home Remedies for Gas Problems & Stomach Hardening

Gas problems, accompanied by a bloated and hardened stomach, can be painful and embarrassing. Most occasional gas problems are caused by improper diet, stress or a change in routine and environment. Certain serious cases or an ongoing chronic case of gas and bloating may be the result of something more grave, such as a food allergy or a digestive disorder. In such cases, prescription medicines are available. For occasional gas, home remedies can work well.

Ginger Root

Ginger root is known to possess enzymes that aid in digestion and help to break down food. It also lessens the discomfort and bloating of a hard, gassy stomach. One home remedy method is to grate ginger very fine, mix with water to dilute it and drink it. Honey can be added to sweeten and curb any overly sharp taste. One teaspoon of ginger should be mixed into 177ml of water. Do not use more ginger in the mixture since consuming too much can cause diarrhoea, mouth sores or heartburn.

Garlic Broth

Although for many people garlic is the cause of their gas problems, it can also be a cure for a hardened, painful stomach. The bloated feeling of discomfort that sometimes settles in the stomach after a large meal or after eating a food that doesn't agree with the system can be remedied with garlic broth. Crushed garlic, simmered in a cup of water for approximately 20 minutes, can speed along the gas expulsion that needs to occur to release the bloating and discomfort of a hardened stomach.


If the gas problem is chronic flatulence, cumin may be used as a preventive measure to help curb the problem altogether. A teaspoon of cumin is dry roasted in a pan until it turns red. It is then mixed with two cups of water and boiled for five or ten minutes. Consumed once a day, cumin has been known to decrease flatulence over time and aid in smooth digestion.


Eating parsley leaves, either curly or flat, has long been considered a successful home aid for gas problems. Some say that parsley became a constant presence as a garnish in restaurants because it is so commonly eaten after meals to assist in digestion. For a hardened stomach with constipation, parsley leaves can be blended to make a juice that works as a laxative. Because it has a strong laxative effect if consumed in excess, no more that 56.7gr should be used.
