Accessing Your Account and Recovering Your Password
If you're accessing your Windows Live Hotmail through a program like Outlook that can save your password, you will be able to log into your e-mail through the program and access your Hotmail password. Similarly, if you've previously selected "Remember me" on this computer or "Remember my password" when logging into Windows Live Hotmail, you will be able to log in and access your password on that computer. Similarly, Windows Live explains that if you use Windows Live Messenger, "you can sign in to Messenger and click Open your e-mail inbox to access your e-mail." If you've saved your password in the browser that you use, you should also be able to log into the account with that information and access your password.
Hotmail Password Reset by Email
If you are unable to access your Windows Live Hotmail account through one of the methods listed above, you may need to reset your password. If you've previously added another e-mail address to your Windows Live Account, you can request to reset your password without logging into your account and set a new password. To do so, first go to the Reset Your Password Page, enter your Windows Live ID along with the encrypted characters that appear in a box below it, and click Continue. Then choose "Send password reset instructions to me in e-mail," choose the email address you'd like them sent to and click Continue. Select OK on the confirmation page. Then, Windows Live specifies, "When you receive the password reset e-mail, click the link in the e-mail to reset your password, and then follow the online instructions."
Hotmail Password Reset by Secret Answer
You can also reset your password by providing the secret answer to the security question you selected when setting up the account and verifying your location information. First, go to the Reset your password page and verify your Windows Live ID and the encrypted characters, as explained above. Click Continue and then select "Use my location information and secret answer to verify my identity." Verify your location by entering the requested information. Use the information that you last provided to Windows Live, even if it is no longer your current location. Enter your answer into the Secret Answer field on the Question page and click continue. From there, you will enter and confirm a new password that will allow you to log into the account. Then sign in to Windows Live.
If you have previously provided Windows Live Hotmail with a mobile-phone number, Hotmail can provide you with a single-use code to access the account. The code is sent by text message On the sign-in screen, enter your Windows Live ID and select "Sign in with a single-use code" to receive the code on your mobile phone.
