International summer camps for teens provide leadership, personal development and college preparatory skills for youth aged 13 to 19. Registration typically covers the cost of accommodation, food and excursions. Additional excursions and activities can be added on to most summer camps. Youth are chaperoned and supervised at all times to ensure their health, well-being and safety while taking in the culture, language and learning in an international setting.

American Collegiate Adventures

American Collegiate Adventures offers pre-college two and four week summer camps in the following international locations: University of Seville, Spain; the European Institute, Florence; the Costa Rican Language Academy, Costa Rica and Panama; and the Imperial College, London. Students study courses in language, community service, art and culture, sports, business and legal, creative arts, history and government. Students also have the opportunity to earn up to six college credits through their course of study and take part in cultural immersion activities. The camps also feature writing, speaking and mind and body workshops.

The camp features a student to staff ratio of 8-to-1. Accommodations and meals are included in the camp registration fee. Upon arrival at the international location, all students receive local cell phones; students are chaperoned at all times and on all excursions.

Camps located in Spain and Italy feature an optional chaperoned six day program extension to London and Paris. After class, students have the opportunity to visit local museums, art galleries and restaurants.

Fireside International Leadership Program – British Columbia

The Fireside International Leadership Program-British Columbia offers a three week youth leadership training program. The program is designed to develop leadership skills and ability based on six elements of leadership competency: individual leadership, community leadership, global knowledge, practical skills, and vision and values.The program curriculum focuses on fundamentals of individuals and group interactions; fundamentals of leadership development; and fundamentals of wilderness skills.

The international leadership program is aimed at attracting youth from international locations to participate in cultural and language exchange, international leadership training and outdoor recreation. While at the camp, youth have the opportunity to learn about different types of leadership and to take part in stewardship of community projects.

Campers aged 13 to 17 receive constant supervision as they visit sites in Vancouver, Whistler, Tofino and Victoria. Camp registration includes accommodations, basic camping gear and camping fees, food, training and transportation. During camp, youth visit the 2010 Vancouver Olympic site; learn the basics of front and backcountry camping; take part in day hikes; and learn orienteering skills.

Odyssey Expeditions-Scuba, Sailing and Marine Biology Adventures

Odyssey Expeditions offers a two to four week scuba diving, sailing and marine biology teen camp for youth aged 13 to 21. The camps take place off the British Virgin Islands and Windward Islands. A maximum of twelve participants embark on a 47-foot catamaran yacht, supervised by staff.

Youth in the program have the opportunity to scuba dive directly off catamaran, in up to 30 sites. Scuba instruction for all levels is provided by certified instructor using full safety equipment. Scuba diving topics covered include open water, advanced open water, rescue, dive master; and speciality diving courses, such as underwater naturalist and photography.

Youth in the program also learn to sail and navigate a catamaran. Sailing courses include basic sailing skills and knowledge; navigation; sailing and power boat handling skills; sail handling; safety; and seamanship skills.

Youth receive Instruction from marine biologists located on-board the catamaran. Campers learn about biodiversity and animal behaviour; participate in projects on coral reef ecology, biology and oceanography; and discover investigative techniques.

There are also opportunities to windsurf, sea kayak, hike, and snorkel at all levels of skill. Through a partnership with marine parks staff and international monitoring organisations campers gain cultural exposure while learning to survey wild dolphin populations; conduct coral health assessments and reef fish counts; and aid in the rehabilitation efforts of sea turtles.

Where There Be Dragons-Summer International Youth Programs

Where There Be Dragons offers four to six week summer cultural immersion programs for youth. Programs are located in regions of Asia, Africa and Latin America. All summer camps are home stay programs-youth stay with local hosts and camp staff. The summer camps feature service and volunteer projects; hiking and walking excursions; and travel days to allow students to take in the local culture. The is a maximum of 12 students per camp; with a student to teacher ratio of 4-to-1 .

Youth summer camps offered in China include the following areas of focus: a comprehensive survey of China; summer work internship in China; Chinese language immersion; intensive language program in Mandarin Chinese; economics of China’s rise to power; and the Silk Road.

Summer camps for youth in Southeast Asia feature: Cambodia learning adventure; Cambodia studies in development and peace; Indonesia studies in culture, conservation and development; Laos eco-adventure; and Thailand, the spirit of Greng Jai.

Youth also have the option of attending summer camps in the Himalayas which cover the following areas of interest: Napal, arts of the Himalayans; North India cultural studies; cultural and spiritual traditions of Sikkim; and cultural odyssey of Tibet.

Latin America summer camps cover the culture and ecology of Bolivia; environmental studies in Brazil; language intensive in Guatemala; and community development in Peru.

Summer camps are also offered in the Middle East and Africa: Morocco-crossroads of mountains and faith; the transformation of Rwanda; the vibrant culture of Senegal; and a summer abroad in Jordon and Syria.
