Wedding Decorating Ideas for Church Pews

Updated February 21, 2017

Your wedding is one of the most memorable days of your life. Undoubtedly, you have put a lot of thought and consideration into the decor of your wedding, as you likely want to make it reflect your personality and add to the feeling of the day. If you are getting married in a church, consider adding decorations to the pews.

Perhaps one of the most common and easiest ways to add interest to church pews for a wedding is with flowers. Affix flowers to a piece of elastic and attach it to the end of church pews. A single calla lily hung on the end of each pew creates a simple yet stunning look. For a more dramatic look, hang an arrangement of flowers that correspond to the colours you've selected for your wedding from the end of each pew.

Another way to decorate your church wedding is by draping garlands from the pews. Purchase real garlands from a florist or faux garlands from a craft supply store. Choose garlands that are in season or that correspond to the theme of your wedding. For example, if you are getting married in the winter, consider using a pine rope garland accented with pine cones or a holly garland. If you have selected a vineyard theme for your wedding, a garland of grape leaves draped from the pews brings the theme to the church. You can even use beaded garlands that correspond to your wedding colours.

Ribbon is another decorative element that you can use to dress up the pews at your church. Single white satin bows add an understated, yet elegant look to the church pews. Combine a variety of colours and fabrics to create large pew bows; for instance, if your wedding colours are blue and green, make bows using green satin and blue organza.

Bells are often associated with weddings, so use them to decorate the pews of your church. From a craft store, purchase fake or real bells. Attach them to fabric and tie the fabric around the end of the pews.

Make the church a more personal space by decorating the pews with pictures of you and your soon-to-be spouse. Gather a collection of photos that have been taken of the two of you during your years of courtship, or hire a professional to take photos specifically for decorations. Place the photos in frames, and secure the frames to the pews with ribbon or wire.
