With a costume party around the corner, you have yet to come up with an idea that sticks. You want to do something simple but fun, something people will get a kick out of. Although the sexy nurse costume consistently shows up every year, you can rethink the costume by coming up with a few funny and gory ideas.

Florence Nightingale and Her Dead Patient

Nurses who fall in love with their patients are often referred to as having Florence Nightingale Syndrome. If you want to pair up with a boyfriend or spouse when the costume party rolls around, dress yourself in an old-fashioned nurse's outfit with a nurse's hat, and have your boyfriend dress as a zombie soldier. To further emulate the idea that the two of you are in love, wipe fake blood over your mouth area as if the zombie has kissed you, and have blood dripping down from his mouth like drool. Add accessories like a stethoscope and clip board. If you want people to immediately grasp who you are, add a nightingale motif by drawing little bird silhouettes on the fabric.

Psycho Nurse

For this costume, all you need is a nurse's uniform, some fake blood, and a comb to tease your hair into a frenzied mess. To locate a nurse's outfit, look at thrift stores and yard sales, as well as costume and Halloween superstores. For the look, choose an old-fashioned nurse's outfit with a blouse and skirt and a white hat, or use a modern set of scrubs. Instead of the traditional white, try a dark colour like crimson or black to really get the point across that this person is crazy. After you've bought or made your own fake blood, splatter your face, hands, and costume with it. Create dark rings around your eyes using black eyeliner, and tease your hair with hairspray and a comb to make everyone head for the hills when they see you coming.

Clumsy Nurse

Some nurses just don't know what they're doing. Find a basic nurse's outfit and then add your own special touches, to indicate your ineptitude. For instance, add syringes (without the needle in them, of course) to your skin by using spirit gum to attach the tip of the syringe to your face or super glue to attach it to your costume's fabric. Create a scratched look by adding a few red lines to your face. Remember that accessories are everything to this costume, so the more nurse-related tools you can "stick" onto yourself, the better.
