A prom date carries expectations and has the ability to elevate a friendship into a romance. Although not required, a prom date present creates a good impression. Keep the gift small, yet tasteful as you tie the gift into the prom itself. Choose one that reflects the prom's theme or colour. And gentleman, a corsage is required and traditional.

For Her

Give her a corsage for her dress from a flower whose colour blends well with the dress she wears. You can also give her a bouquet of flowers, red roses if you are romantically attached, or a bouquet of daisies or carnations to make a statement that you think of her as a friend only. Consider small boxes of candy or a couple of truffles inserted into a wrapped box.

For Him

Make him a CD of tunes to pop into the car stereo on your way to the prom, if he is driving. Chapstick for men will keep his lips moist and prevent chapping or consider breath mints or gum to sweeten his breath. (Nice idea if you plan to kiss goodnight at the end of the prom date). A bottle of nuts, baked goods like a large cookie, a brownie or chocolate-covered strawberries make a good gift.

For Both

Decorate a picture frame or choose one specifically for proms to insert your professional prom photograph. Perhaps, you prefer a small disposable digital camera to capture the special moments between you along with all the pictures of your friends. Or, you could make a memory photograph album for all the pictures you both take at the prom. Another option is a couple of helium balloons or a small gift of hand lotion.
