Soldering electrical connections for audio equipment can be a cumbersome task. You have to heat a soldering iron and apply just the right amount of solder, all while keeping a steady hand. A new type of solderless connection is available that no longer requires the use of a soldering iron. While there are some drawbacks to using solderless connections, the advantages greatly out weight them.

No Need for a Soldering Iron

Using a soldering iron to solder two connections can be a difficult and time-consuming process. Poorly soldered connections can have limited electrical conductivity, resulting in a loss of electrical flow. Solderless electrical connections avoid the use of solder entirely.

Solderless Connectors Can Be Disconnected Easily

Soldered connections have to be unsoldered to take apart. First a soldered connection has to have all of the previous solder removed. Then the connections have to be cleaned. Finally, they have to be resoldered with new solder. When uninstalling an audio piece or speaker, soldered connections will require a time-consuming process of removing the solder before removing the connections. Solderless wires can be easily detached with a crimp tool then replaced.

Quicker to Connect

Connecting solderless connections on wires or cables can be done much faster than by soldering. Wiring up a car stereo with solderless connections can take less time and expense than with soldering connections.

Soldered Connections Can Deteriorate

Soldered connections can deteriorate from stresses, such as physical pressure on the connection, heat that causes the metals in the connection to expand and general deterioration from poorly made solder compounds. Solderless connections avoid these types of connection problems.
