    List of mild tempered dogs

Choosing the right dog for a family pet is important. A dog needs to be friendly, gentle and mild-tempered, if it is to be trusted playing with children. Avoid dogs with a known reputation for being aggressive, such as guard dogs. Research the dog breed before buying to know the dog's general temperament, but remember that a dog will largely grow up to behave according to how it has been raised.

The Beagle is a mischievous and enthusiastic hound dog. It loves people and it makes a good companion for any child because it is such a gentle-natured breed. Energetic and playful, the Beagle craves attention. This does make it quite a demanding breed that can become destructive if left alone.

    Border Terrier

A small and sturdy hunting dog, the Border Terrier makes a friendly family pet. A loving animal with a mild temper, it has abundant energy and loves to play with children. It can be a good guard dog due to its loud bark, but the bark is just for show as it is not an aggressive dog. It can be socialised with other dogs and even cats but it can not be trusted with small animals such as rodents, birds or rabbits. A firm hand is needed when training the Border Terrier to assert who is the pack leader.

    Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is sweet, affectionate and sensitive breed, known as the "Comforter Spaniel." It loves human and dog companionship and makes a happy family pet that does not like to be left alone. It has a friendly and gentle nature and loves children, but due to its small size, it is not advisable to leave it alone with small children who may play too roughly with it. This breed is fairly easy to train but should be kept on the lead as it is likely to chase small animals.
