Xena is a fictional character who first appeared on television in the series, "Hercules: The legendary Journeys." Eventually Xena became a household name in the show, "Xena: Warrior Princess." Xena is often depicted with a chakram, which is her signature throwing weapon. Xena is a popular choice for costume parties because she represents feminine power and the costume is attractive.

You can assemble the mostly-leather costume from materials you can find at craft stores.

Bikini Top

Purchase a black leather vest and black string bikini top. Paint the bikini top with gold fabric paint in a pattern similar to the Xena breast plate. Wear this over the vest. For the shoulder plates, cut two 8-inch circles of faux leather and sew them to the top shoulders of the vest.

Find a small leather skirt from a thrift shop or costume store. On top of the skirt, wrap an overskirt of black faux leather around your waist. It should be a little bit longer than the plain skirt underneath. Cut slits that are about 1 inch in length all the way around the overskirt. The base of the slits should come to a point and the cuts should stop about 3 inches from the top. Paint the slits gold to mimic armour.

Arm Armor

Wrap a piece of faux leather around your forearm. Make sure it is big enough to cover your forearm from your elbow to your wrist. Stick Velcro fasteners on the end to easily secure the leather around your forearm. Cut another strip of faux leather about 3 inches wide. Wrap the strip around your bicep and secure it with Velcro. Repeat this on your other arm. Decorate the armour with gold fabric paint.

Leg Armor

Cut a piece of faux leather to wrap around your ankle. Make sure the piece is long enough to cover the front of your boot to the top of your knee. Secure the leather behind your leg with Velcro. Cut a small circle out of the faux leather, about 6 inches wide, and sew it to the top of the leg armour. Paint it with gold fabric paint in a design similar to Xena's leg armour. Your boots should be plain, black leather boots. Repeat the same design on the other leg.

To create the chakram, cut the centre out of a plastic or styrofoam plate, leaving a ring that is about 2 inches in width. Paint the plate gold and attach it to the side of your skirt with Velcro. For Xena's sword, purchase a toy or costume sword from the Internet or from a local costume shop.
