Mom's heart is sure to melt when you present her with a handmade craft on Mother's Day. Incorporating doilies into your craft project will add a feminine, frilly touch to any craft. Whether you can't find the perfect card in the gift shop, or you want to present Mom with a meaningful gift on a budget, doily crafts are an appropriate avenue to express your appreciation on Mother's Day.

Cards

You can adorn cards with paper doilies, giving your craft a lacy look. After creating a handmade card from construction paper or card stock, cut patterns from paper doilies and glue them to the front of a greeting card, or use paper doilies as a stencil. Lightly paint over a doily and gently peel it from the card to create an elegant pattern on the paper.

Doily Flowers

Make mom a flower bouquet that will last long beyond fresh flowers by making doily flowers. Using paper doilies of various shapes and sizes, poke the centre of each doily inward to create a funnel shape. After placing two or three doily funnels inside of one another, wrap green pipe cleaners around the bottom of the funnel to create the look of a flower. Present Mom with multiple doily flowers adorned with glitter or spattered with floral colours of paint, all arranged in a bouquet.

Doily Art Frames

Use a large doily as a mounting surface and lacy frame for children's artwork, photos or a meaningful poem. To complete this project, use a compass to draw a paper circle one- to two-inches smaller in diameter than the doily. Once you cut the paper circle, your kids can decorate the surface. When they're finished decorating the circle, glue it to the centre of a paper doily and present the finished craft to Mom.

Doily Sachet

Give your mom a sachet of pleasant smells for her closet or dresser drawer. Place two doilies with solid centres back to back and smear a line of glue around the centre outlines. You will end up with a small pouch. Fill the pouch with lavender, potpourri or another of your mom's favourite smells. After filling and sealing the pouch, thread a satin ribbon through the doily to create a hanging loop and finish with ribbons, glitter or buttons to personalise the sachet.
