The decision to host a wedding reception at a Chinese restaurant may be based on budget, personal preference or perhaps the fact that the bride and groom own the restaurant or met there. Whatever the reason, transform the restaurant into a celebration that reflects your personal taste or Asian flair.

Serve traditional Chinese food at your wedding reception that takes place in a Chinese restaurant. Stick to the general menu that the restaurant provides. Choose from family style, buffet or individually plated food. Appetizers may include foods like spring rolls, seafood dumplings or salad prawns. For the main dish serve items like fish, poultry, pork or rice and noodle dishes with vegetables. To inform guests of the food provided, place a handmade menu typed on decorative paper at each guest's seat.

Give your wedding reception guests Asian-inspired wedding favours to take home as a memento of the special occasion. Useful or decorative favours are available. Select mini metal or paper lanterns, silk hand fans, chopsticks or origami cranes. Other favour ideas include soaps, candles, candle holders or coasters that feature images of cherry blossoms. Place one favour on the place setting of each guest as a way to greet everyone and thank them for attending your big day.

Go beyond the traditional decorations within the Chinese restaurant. Add further Asian flair to the decor or add something different. If you want to emphasise a Chinese theme, use cherry blossom or bonsai plants as table centrepieces. You can also hang Chinese paper lanterns from the ceiling with or without lighting inside. To add a different feel to the venue, include floral arrangements in any colour or flower type. For a romantic mood, add lighting like candelabras or rose petals sprinkled across the tables.

Provide ample entertainment for your wedding guests at your reception. See if the restaurant will allow a DJ to provide music for dancing. For a more authentic type of Chinese entertainment, hire professional dragon dancers or Chinese drummers to entertain your guests throughout the wedding reception. If the restaurant does not already have entertainment like this, make sure to get permission to bring your own. Get your wedding guests involved in these traditions.
