Cool Things to Make for Your Room

Updated November 21, 2016

Put a personal creative stamp on your bedroom by showcasing your homemade treasures throughout the room. These one-of-a-kind items have more meaning than most decor pieces you could buy in a store. Feature your own wall art, sentimental hand-decorated frames or wild and crazy, colourful furniture that has been transformed with a paint brush and a few embellishments.

Spring Lamps

Create your own spring lamps to feature in your room. Buy basic lamps with white shapes and foam craft stickers at the craft store. Choose spring-themed stickers such as butterflies, ladybirds, flowers and caterpillars. Adorn the outside of your lamp shades with these embellishments. Avoid putting stickers underneath the lamp shade.

Fish Bowl Seashell Decor

Use an old-fashioned fish bowl, craft sand, pebbles and seashells to create decorative ocean art for your room. You can find small round fish bowls at pet stores or online. Fill the bowl almost to the top with sand and place the small pebbles on top of the sand. Decorate the remaining space with seashells, star fish, sticks or other treasures that you picked up on the beach. Place the finished creation on your desk or shelf. You can also use a hot glue gun to attach a few small seashells or rocks to the outside of the bowl.

Art Deco Book Shelves

Jazz up your bookshelves by painting them your favourite colours such as purple, blue or yellow. Once the paint is dry, use a hot glue gun to adorn the outside border of the shelf, sides and top of the shelf with colourful buttons. Choose one main colour, a handful of shades or decorate with a rainbow of bright buttons. Include a few cartoon buttons such as Hello Kitty or Winnie the Pooh if you really want to create something out-of-the-ordinary.

Framed Paintings

Why buy art from art gallery when you can paint a picture yourself? Paint a detailed landscape, butterfly or house if you have artistic ability. If you don't normally paint, you can always create something simply by using animal-shaped sponge wedges to make an animal sponge paint creation. You can also trace a large lady bird and then paint it or frame one of your best scrapbook layouts.
