An engagement is an important and exciting time in a couple's life. Many couples have an engagement party to celebrate their love and commitment to a life together. An engagement party is not complete without cake. Engagements are associated with a sparkly diamond ring, and the addition of rhinestones to an engagement cake is an appropriate and beautiful way to give nod to that all-important ring.

Rhinestone Border

Use rhinestones to embellish the edge of the cake. A round cake on a cardboard cake round can be embellished by adding rhinestones. Place a dot of icing on the cake round and gently push a rhinestone onto it. The icing serves as glue to keep the rhinestone from moving or falling off. Create a border of rhinestones around the entire cake. You can use same-sized rhinestones or alternate between small and large ones.

Rhinestone Ring

Rhinestone rings can be found at craft stores. Find a design that closely resembles the bride-to-be's ring and use it as a decorative element on the engagement cake. You can choose to add one ring to every piece of cake by dividing a sheet cake into pieces, or you can use one ring along with other decorative elements to embellish the centre of the cake.

Rhinestone Cupcakes

Use cupcakes as an engagement party cake, and use rhinestones to decorate the cupcake cups. Dot small amounts of glue on the cups and put a rhinestone on each dot. Create a random pattern of dots or create a border with rhinestones. Display the cupcakes on a tiered cake stand. The cups will glimmer in the light. Experiment with placement of the cupcake stand to achieve the best lighting effects.

Rhinestone Stems Cake Decoration

Buy rhinestone stems at a craft store or florist. A rhinestone stem is a rhinestone that is attached to a stem, usually silver-toned. The stems are often used in bridal bouquet and floral arrangements. Stick the rhinestone stems into the centre of a round cake. The stems will have a gentle, cascading bend, much like that of a floral stem. Add flowers to the centre if you want a fuller decoration or for a larger cake.
