Glinda and Dorothy
Dress up in costumes from "The Wizard Of Oz," a classic movie from 1939 where Dorothy gets swept away in a tornado to land in Emerald City. Have Mom dress as Glinda the good witch and the daughter dress as Dorothy. For Glinda, choose a blonde wig if you don't have blonde hair, a long and shimmery pink dress, a silver crown and a silver wand. Dorothy is a brunette who wears her hair in pigtails, a blue dress with a white undershirt and, of course, the red slippers.
Cat and Kitten
Dress up as felines for Halloween; with the mom as the cat and the daughter as the kitten. Both should dress in black, either a shirt and trousers, dress or leotard with black tights and black shoes. Make cat ears by cutting out triangles from black felt and sewing them to black headbands. Black felt sewn on the back of the trousers forms a tail. Use eyeliner or body paint to draw whiskers on your cheeks.
Spider and Web
A matching mother and daughter costume for Halloween includes a spider and a web. Choose a spider costume for the daughter and a spider web costume for the mother. This also works for a baby daughter, as Mom will hold her during the festivities and she will appear to be caught in the web. Both should wear all black. For the spider web, cover your clothing in a package of fake spider webs by stretching them and gluing to your shirt and trousers. For the spider, cut eight long strips of black felt and sew them to your daughter's clothing.
Woodland Tree and Fairy
Dress the mom up as a tree, with the daughter as a woodland fairy. For the tree costume, wrap craft wire around a headband and have silk leaves sticking out of the headband with the wire. Mom will wear a grey or brown shirt and trousers. For the daughter, it's fairly easy to find a fairy costume for any age girl at the costume store. For the fairy, have your daughter dress in solid-colour clothing, preferably a shimmery fabric. Use craft wire to form the wing shapes and cover them with tulle or another shimmery fabric and attach to the back of her shirt with craft glue.
Queen and Princess
Go to your party or trick-or-treating with your daughter by dressing up as a queen and princess. Any fancy dresses will do for both costumes, with crowns made of a shimmery paper or felt and adhesive rhinestones. For a last-minute costume idea, go to your local Halloween costume or party supply store for a queen and princess costume.
