Rhythm clocks are technically clocks made by the Rhythm Watch Company. However, the name "rhythm clock" has become synonymous with Rhythm Watch Company's most famous product, the musical motion wall clock. Many different modern clock makers produce their own versions of these fascinating timepieces, but the Rhythm Watch Company still continues to be a major manufacturer of the musical motion wall clock.

History

The Rhythm Watch Company was founded in Tokyo in 1950. They initially specialised in table, alarm and music box clocks. The company grew quickly, winning several awards for the quality of their timepieces. By 1972, they were the world's largest clock producer. In 1988, the Rhythm Watch Company invented the battery-powered musical motion wall clock, using their "magical motion" technology. As of 2011, the head office of the company remains in Japan, but several different branch offices exist around the world, including a major office in the USA.

Rhythm Clocks

When a rhythm clock turns to a new hour, gears inside the clock set the face of the clock into motion. The moving pieces rhythmically dance around the face of the clock before falling back into place. In a true rhythm clock, this motion is accompanied by music. Many different models have been produced over the years with many different motion designs and musical accompaniments (anything from Christian hymns to classical music to popular modern music).

Where to Buy

Rhythm clocks can be bought at most clock-specific stores, as well as at many other types of stores (like pharmacies and department stores). Rhythm clocks can also be purchased over the Internet. If you want to purchase an authentic Rhythm Watch Company clock, Rhythm USA offers an extremely useful store finder on their website that gives you the address and phone number of stores that carry their clocks.

Maintenance

Unless you have an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of a clock, you should refrain from attempting to fix or clean the moving parts of a rhythm clock. Rhythm USA offers a customer service phone number to call if you are experiencing difficulties with your clock. They can also tell you where to take a broken clock to get it fixed. A rhythm clock should only need its batteries changed once or twice a year at most.
