The Best Double-Drawer Dishwashers

Double-drawer dishwashers have revolutionised the design of dishwashers. Now you can open and close the dishwasher drawers the same way you open and close kitchen cabinet drawers. A double-drawer dishwasher complements a modern kitchen's sleek lines without sacrificing function. Since a double-drawer dishwasher is an investment, you want to make sure you choose the best model for your budget.

The KitchenAid Architect Series

Appliancist -- a third-party product rating company -- published its double-drawer dishwasher review in June 2007. Among manufacturing companies' top rated double-drawer dishwashers is the KitchenAid Architect Series. Product testers found the drawers convenient to use. It is Energy Star qualified and uses 33 per cent less energy than conventional dishwashers. It has five wash cycles and can accommodate up to 10 plate settings. You can also customise its racks to make room for a large pot or several smaller items. KitchenAid features the dishwasher in stainless steel finish. The dishwasher sells for about £877.

Fisher and Paykel DishDrawer

Appliancist reviewers gave the Fisher and Paykel DishDrawer high marks. One special feature of this dishwasher is that each drawer can be placed in different locations in your kitchen or you can stack the drawers on top of each other in a typical under-the-counter spot. The dishwasher is designed more for washing smaller dish loads, as each drawer can hold up to seven place settings. You can reduce utility bills and conserve water by operating one drawer at a time. You can buy one drawer for approximately £455 or both drawers for £942.

Maytag Double-Drawer Dishwasher

GALT Home published an online dishwasher buying guide in February 2011. The guide found that Maytag manufactures a double-door dishwasher (MDD8000AWS) that compares to the Fisher and Paykel DishDrawer, but without the high price tag. It sells for less than £845. The model is quieter than standard dishwashers and provides the same easy to access drawers that the Fisher and Paykell DishDrawer offers. It comes in a stainless steel finish. However, GALT Home cautions that there has not been enough customer feedback on the product's performance to conclude that it functions optimally with repeated use.

Double-Drawer Dishwasher Overall Rating

GALT Home's dishwasher buying guide states that even the best rated double-drawer dishwashers, such as the Fisher and Paykel DishDrawer, require more repair than standard dishwashers. Although these dishwashers offer an innovative design, they might not provide the same level of performance you are accustomed to from your conventional dishwasher. It might be worth waiting until performance matches a dishwasher's innovative design before purchasing a double-drawer dishwasher.
