Using floating candles in your centrepieces can be elegant and affordable. Floating candles can be purchased in bulk and stored for long periods of time--unlike real flowers which have to be cut within a day of your wedding for optimal freshness. By using floating candle centrepieces, you can relieve some stress on the day of your wedding by preparing your centrepieces or parts of your centrepieces ahead of time.
Arrange tall champagne flutes filled three-quarters full with water or a coloured liquid. Place one round floating candle in each flute. You can place small LED lights or a wreath around the base of the flutes. Choose different heights of champagne flutes to add depth to your centrepiece. However, you should stick to a similar style and design for all of the flutes so that the centrepiece looks uniform. If you like multiple flutes, choose to use two of one and two of the other. Either two short in the same design or two tall in the same design, or you could choose to do one of each design in each height.
If you like the look of real flowers but can't afford full floral centrepieces, purchase a couple buds for each of your tables. Choose a large shallow dish. Heart-shaped dishes add a special romantic touch, or you can choose a shape to compliment your theme. Round dishes look elegant, while square dishes look more modern and edgy. Glass dishes help to reflect the light but ceramic or stone dishes could also be used. Fill the dish half full of water. Depending on the circumference of the dish, place two to three flower buds in it. Orchids and lilies float nicely in these centrepieces. Add five to seven floating candles to match the flowers you have chosen. Floating candles can be purchased in a variety of shapes, designs and colours, including some that resemble flowers or leaves.
Floating candle centrepieces do not need to be simple and low-key. Include one of your engagement photos or glue a blooming flower bulb to the bottom of the glass dish. If you are planning on including a photo, print it to fit the bottom of the dish. If you are using a round or shaped dish, print the photo larger than needed and trim the edges to fit. Laminate the photo. Using an epoxy or waterproof glue, attach the photo to the bottom of dish. If you prefer flowers over photos, glue a large flower bloom that fully covers the bottom of the dish. Fill either design with water and add several floating candles on top. Flower petals or sparkles can be added as a finishing touch.
If you want live entertainment, fill a small round glass fish bowl with water. Add one or two small fish--goldfish or angel fish are about the size you want to use. You can place some multicoloured rocks in the bottom, seaweed and other foliage into the water with the fish. Place flowers, lily pads and floating candles on top of the water.
