Dogs Crafts Made Out of Clay Pots
Storing your dog bones in a clay pot is a way to keep them out of Fido's sight. (dog biscuits image by Greg Pickens from Fotolia.com)

For many people, a pet dog is like a member of the family. People often make leashes, dog sweaters or dog bootees for their dogs, but there are other DIY dog projects out there. Personalise your craft projects for dogs with their names or details specific to their breed. Pet-themed projects are fun for families and kids of all ages.

Bone Holder, aka "Cookie Jar"

Paint bones on the clay pot using craft paint and a stencil. If you do not like the colour of your clay pot, you can paint it before stencilling the dog bones on it. If you are painting the pot with a base, let it dry thoroughly before beginning the stencil process. When the stencils have dried, you can use a crafting pen or marker and write dog-worthy statements on the bones. Ideas include "Bow wow," "Ruff, "Treat time!" or even your dog's name.

Dog Face

Paint a cartoon version of your dog's face on the planter. You can find stencilling packages for certain types of dogs, such as Maltese, beagle, poodle and pug. Of course, you can always keep it simple and paint two button eyes, perky ears, a black nose and a tongue hanging out. This image would be representative of most dogs. Paint the name of the dog on the back of your planter.

Dog Statue Holder

Using craft paint, paint the clay pot a shade of green. Let the pot dry thoroughly. Insert a heavy sponge in the base of the pot. Place a green cloth over the sponge and tuck it down thoroughly on the sides. Poke a plastic crafting stick, the kind used in candy bouquets, down in the sponge. Write your dog's name on a circular piece of scrapbooking paper and place it on top of the stick. Place a statue of your dog on the green cloth. Tie it down with rope and make it look like dog toys. When this is finished, it will look like your dog posing on a green lawn. This is a craft that can be placed in your window as decor or used on your desk. Kids might also enjoy it in their bedroom.

Dog Toy Box

Purchase stencils that spell "Toys" and your dog's name. Change the colour of the pot if you want by painting a base colour. Let it dry thoroughly. When it is dry, use the stencil and write your dog's name and "Toys" on the clay pot. Paint the stencilled letters and let dry. Place your dog's toys inside the clay pot. This is an attractive way to store used dog Kongs, balls and other toys. Buy a larger clay pot for dogs with bigger toys.
