How to remove embedded subtitles

Updated April 11, 2017

Digital media has proliferated the volume of movies available for viewing and download, including foreign films. Subtitles are a convenient way to understand a film in another language, or to supplement an English language film with easy-to-read text at the bottom. However, not everyone wants or needs subtitles; for some, they may be an annoyance. It is possible to remove embedded subtitles from a video file.

Open the folder containing the video file.

Locate the file with the SRT extension. These documents contain the subtitled text.

Delete the SRT file or move it out of the folder containing the movie file. The subtitles will no longer appear.
