VLC Media Player is a full-featured, open-source video player, which houses a wide array of audio and video codecs, or decoders. A dual monitor set-up allows you to watch movies on your second monitor, which continuing work on your primary monitor. Using VLC on the second monitor is as simple as dragging the window to the second screen, but Windows 7 even makes it easier than that with the use of keyboard shortcuts.

  1. 1

    Open VLC Media Player.

  2. 2

Hold the "Windows" key and press the left or right arrow key three times, depending on where your second monitor is located. If the second monitor is on the left, use the left arrow. If the second monitor is on the right, use the right arrow. This places the screen in "windowed" mode on the second monitor.

  3. 3

Double-click the video screen to play the video in full-screen mode.

  4. 4

Double-click the video screen again to return to windowed mode.

  5. 5

Exit the program. Windows 7 will remember this window location, so VLC will automatically open in the second monitor next time.
