Sign in to your Tumblr account and select the specific Tumblr blog to add the banner to.
Click "Customize appearance," "Theme" and "Use custom HTML."
Scroll through the Tumblr's CSS and HTML code until you reach the location where you want to post your banner. Each Tumblr blog has different coding, so you need to scroll through the code until you find the sidebar DIV block or a similar block to place your banner.
Type "<a href="" and paste the URL that you want your banner to link to. Note that this is not the banner image URL, but the URL you want your readers to go to when they click the banner.
Type "">" after you type the URL, then type "<img src="bannerurl">," where "bannerurl" is the hosted file location of your banner image. Type "</a>" after this piece of code to close the link tag.
Click "Save & Close" to finish.
