How to Install Ikea Sun Shades in a Backyard

Updated February 21, 2017

The Ikea Dyning sunshield sets up near a patio or on a balcony to provide extra privacy and protection from the elements. The waterproof sunshield blocks up to 97 per cent of the sun's UV rays. The Dyning sunshield from Ikea also blocks wind from your patio or balcony. The sunshade is made of washable polyester and comes in five different colours: white, red, blue, green and black. The latter four colours are all striped with white. All the pieces needed for assembly come with the sunshield.

Twist the flat feet-like metal pieces onto the bottom of the vertical poles so they can stand up.

Slip the round vertical poles into the holes on the flat horizontal poles and secure them in place with the included screws.

Slide the shade holders over the horizontal poles and tighten them in place with the screws.

Slip the shade through the shade holder's hooks to hold it in place.

Set the shade around your patio or balcony.

Apply the included fixing tape to the shield if it gets torn. Lay the shield flat so the two torn sides are touching, then apply the fixing tape over the tear from the inside of the shield to repair the rip. Place another strip of fixing tape on the outside of the shield over the tear to complete the repair process.
