Sometimes a plain pair of shoes just isn't enough. When you need a little fashion boost for a special occasion, make a pair of bow clips to embellish an ordinary pair of shoes. You can use alligator clips so that the bows are easy to remove and replace. Make some brightly coloured ribbons or bows for a little girl or make them for yourself to show off your fun-loving side.

  1. 1

Turn one of the alligator clips upside down and pinch the end to open the clip. Apply some hot glue to the underside of the top of the clip and smooth the end of the ribbon over the length of the clip's underside. Press firmly for 20 to 30 seconds.

  2. 2

Turn the clip over so that it is right side up. Spread some hot glue across the top of the clip. Smooth the ribbon over the top of the clip.

  3. 3

Flip the clip over again, spread some glue over the bottom of the clip and smooth the ribbon across. Cut off any excess ribbon.

  4. 4

Repeat the above steps to cover another alligator clip with ribbon.

  5. 5

Turn one of the bows over and spread some hot glue on the back centre of the bow. Flip the bow right-side up and press it firmly against the centre of the ribbon-covered alligator clip.

  6. 6

Repeat Step 5 to add a bow to the other ribbon-covered clip.

Tips and warnings

  • You can replace a bow with a decorative flower. Remove the centres from a few silk flowers, align the petals together and slide a decorative craft brad through the hole in the centre to keep the petals together. Apply glue to the back of the layered petals and press the flower against the ribbon-covered clip.
