The Hustler G7 high-performance radio antenna is a 15-foot-high vertical antenna commonly used by ham radio operators. It is two meters long and made of aluminium and fibreglass to keep the antenna functioning properly and providing a consistent signal to a radio through all sorts of weather. During and after your installation of the Hustler G7 antenna, you must do some tuning to get the best signal possible.

  1. 1

Place a watt meter on or nearby the antenna. Connect the watt meter to the antenna using a coax cable. Use another coax cable to connect the watt meter to your radio.

  2. 2

Turn your ham radio to FM or CW mode, and tune in to the low edge of the band you want to use. Check the reading on the watt meter, and write it down.

  3. 3

Tune your ham radio to the high edge of the band you wish to use, and write down the reading from the watt meter.

  4. 4

Determine which has a lower reading. If the low edge has a lower reading than the high edge, then your antenna is too long and needs to be shortened. If your high edge has a lower reading than the low edge, then your antenna is too short and needs to be longer.

  5. 5

Loosen the clamp at the bottom of the antenna with the wrench, and raise or lower the lower part of the antenna to the desired height. Re-tighten the clamp.

  6. 6

Adjust the middle of the antenna by loosening the middle clamp with the wrench and raising or lowering the upper part of the antenna. Re-tighten the middle clamp.
