Zeus ZBOT is a keylogging Trojan that installs itself on your computer by using drive-by-downloading. When you visit a banking website, ZBOT automatically starts recording any information typed on your computer. The Trojan then steals credit card information, Social Security numbers and any other personal information typed. ZBOT is constantly changing the file name it runs as, making this virus hard to detect. Fortunately, many antivirus programs have updated their software to find and remove ZBOT after running a full scan.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Download and install an antivirus program, such as Avast, AVG or McAfee.

  2. 2

Download and install an anti-malware program, such as MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware or Microsoft Security Essentials.

  3. 3

Start your computer in safe mode by restarting it, then tapping the "F8" key. Select "Safe Mode with Networking" when prompted.

  4. 4

Open the antivirus program of your choice, then select "Full Scan." Wait for the program to finish scanning your computer. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on your computer.

  5. 5

Click "Remove Viruses" when prompted. If your antivirus program is unable to remove the virus, select the "Move to Vault" option.

  6. 6

Open the anti-malware program of your choice. Select "Full Scan" when prompted. The program will now remove any remaining traces of the Zeus ZBOT Trojan.

  7. 7

Restart your computer. The ZBOT Trojan will now be removed.
