How to Change the Aspect Ratio on My Sharp Aquos TV

Written by mandy slake | 13/05/2017

The aspect ratio of an image is measured in width and height units. Different aspect ratios serve different purposes. A 4:3 aspect ratio, for example, is common for TV broadcasts and older movies, while newer movies use a variety of widescreen aspect ratios, including 2.35:1, 1.78:1 and 1.85:1. Change the aspect ratio on your Sharp Aquos TV using the remote control.

Press the "View Mode" button on the remote control. A list of available aspect ratios appears on the screen.

Press the up or down arrows on the remote to highlight the aspect ratio you want to use. The screen aspect ratio changes based on your selection.

Select "Side Bar" for viewing 4:3 images without distortion. This mode shows bars on the left and right side of the screen.

Select "S.Stretch" to stretch 4:3 images. This mode makes the image fill the screen, but it may look distorted.

Select "Zoom" mode to view widescreen 2.35:1 images. This mode chops off the top and bottom of 4:3 images to fill the entire screen.

Select "Stretch" mode for viewing widescreen movies; 1.78:1 images fill the entire screen, while 1.85:1 images show black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.
