How to Stream Music on Ustream

Uploading music to Ustream uses essentially the same procedure as uploading webcam live streams. Ustream account users are able to take live performances in the form of webcam streaming or you upload files from your computer to stream and share with friends. The difference between webcam and file uploading is that you integrate a microphone to introduce and speak over the music you are streaming. The voiceover tool is helpful for disc jockeys.

Instructions

  1. 1

Attach your headphones to the single input end of the voice splitter cable. Take the voice splitter cable which will have two cords coming out of it and plug one of its ends into the headphone input jack on your laptop or computer. Attach the other end to the microphone input of your computer.

  2. 2

Prepare your music selections using your computers music program. Choose to use a program such as iTunes or Windows Media Player. Create a playlist by choosing songs and dragging them into a playlist group. Test to make sure the audio is working by clicking one of your songs. Leave the window open and minimise.

  3. 3

Open your web browser and log into your Ustream account. Once there, click on the button "Create a Show." Fill in the options and name your show.

  4. 4

Allow the Ustream server to access your webcam and microphone. A permission pops up once you finish choosing options. If ready to continue, click "Allow." Look at the bottom of the screen. Check boxes next to video and audio broadcast tabs. If you plan to play music only over a black webcam screen, uncheck the video box. If you plan to show yourself and DJ the show with comments over the music, leave both boxes checked.

  5. 5

Speak into the microphone and look at the VU meter to make sure your microphone is being picked up. If not check your connections.

  6. 6

Arrange the music player window and the Ustream window side by side on your computer screen. To do this simply drag the edge of each window to make them smaller until they will both fit and are visible for you. When ready, click "Start broadcast," on the Ustream window. When ready for the music to begin, click the "Play" button on your media player to start streaming live.
