You can use your cardboard template to trace the gift box design on a piece of decorative card stock to add a personal touch to your gift giving.

Print a free gift box template onto an 8.5-by-11-inch sheet of computer paper from online craft website.

Cut out your printable box template with a pair of scissors.

Locate an empty box -- such as a produce box, cake box or appliance box -- and flatten it. You want your template to be sturdy so that it will last as you make gift boxes in the future.

Place the box cutout on the cardboard. Trace the form with a pencil. Cut out the form from the cardboard.

Place the cardboard cutout on a piece of card stock and trace it with a pencil. Fold the card stock according to the paper cutout you began with. Remember that although the template needs to be sturdy, but the actual box you make can be made from paper that folds more easily -- such as card stock.
