No computer knows how to play FID video files. This, in fact, is the point of the file. FID is a decoy extension, a trick use by some streaming video sites to confuse users who download the videos using a browser plugin or online converter. Luckily, there is an easy solution. Restore the "FID" file to its true extension, and your computer will recognise it.

  1. 1

    Right click the FID file.

  2. 2

    Select "Rename."

  3. 3

Change "fid" to "flv," the true extension. For instance, Video.fid would become Video.flv.

  4. 4

Click elsewhere on the screen to save.

  5. 5

Double click the file. It will now open automatically in Windows Media Player, which can play FLV files.
