How to make felt stiff

Updated April 17, 2017

Felt can be used in crafts of all kinds, from creating Christmas ornaments to making accessories for dolls. Sometimes, stiff felt is needed because the regular stuff is just too soft to stand up in certain crafts. While you can purchase stiff felt, you can also transform your soft felt to stiff felt with a few easy steps.

Add one part glue to one part water in the container and mix. Use the paintbrush to paint the mixture onto one side of the felt, coating it completely.

Allow the felt to dry for several hours. If the felt is not quite as stiff as you desire, repeat the glue process with the other side of the felt and allow it to dry.

Use the spray starch as an alternative method. Simply spray the felt down before ironing at a warm temperature. Allow the felt to dry before using it in crafts.

Things You'll Need
