The basic input/output system, or BIOS, of a computer is its most important application. Entering the BIOS on a Lenovo ThinkPad R60 is a slightly different process than entering the same program on a regular desktop or laptop computer. The ThinkPad features a few proprietary buttons that aren't found on any other type of device, and it is through the use of one of these buttons that you will enter the BIOS.

Instructions

  1. 1

Connect your ThinkPad to its AC adaptor and connect the AC adaptor to a wall outlet. Because the BIOS allows you to adjust important system properties, you don't want to access the BIOS while running from battery power. If the battery dies during your work, it could adjust the way your computer operates.

  2. 2

    Turn on your ThinkPad R60.

  3. 3

Watch for the message that begins "To interrupt normal start-up" to appear on screen. When it does, press the "ThinkVantage" button on the keyboard of your ThinkPad.

  4. 4

Highlight and select the "Start Setup Utility" option to unlock the BIOS on your ThinkPad R60.
