VideoLan's x264 is a video codec that many online video streams use, including Hulu and YouTube. As a result, many movies you download or rip online may come in the x264 codec as a MOV file. You can convert an x264 MOV into a regular AVI with FFmpeg. You simply need to modify the command-line code appropriately.

Place the x264 video file in your "My Videos" folder.
Open FFmpeg from your desktop or "Start" menu.
Type in the following: "ffmpeg -i NAME1.mov -vcodec copy -acodec copy --o NAME2.avi" (without quotes).
Change "NAME1" to the name of your x264 file.
Change "NAME2" to the name of your output file.
Hit the "Enter" key.
