The VideoLAN VLC media player is a freely available, versatile open source program. VLC is available for all operating systems, and will play practically any media file without downloading additional codecs or other software. VLC can play videos in either full screen or compact mode. In full screen mode, VLC overlays a taskbar over the video. To get rid of this taskbar, use a simple trick.

    Open a video in the VLC media player.

    Right-click anywhere inside the video player and select "Full Screen" to switch to full screen mode. VLC displays both the upper and lower taskbars.

    Move the cursor in between the two taskbars, then move it all the way off the screen to either the right or left. Make sure the cursor is not on top of one of the taskbars.Wait a few seconds for the taskbars to disappear.

    Move the cursor back into view on the screen to make the taskbars return.
