How to stop Avast from blocking websites

Updated July 19, 2017

Avast! is one of several computer antivirus programs that is available both in free and commercial versions. Because it is so important to protect a computer from malicious software, many computer users have downloaded the free version of Avast! to use at home. Avast! has a built-in feature that allows you to block certain websites, preventing anyone from using your computer to access them. If you have accidentally enabled website blocking, or blocked a website that you did not intend to, you can disable this feature just as quickly.

Right-click the orange Avast! icon in the system tray, then click "Open Avast! User Interface." This launches the main Avast! application.

Click the "Additional Protection" tab on the left side of the window, then click "Site Blocking" under it. The right side of the window displays a list of each website that Avast! is blocking.

Click a website on the list, then click the grey "Delete" button at the end of the row to stop blocking an individual website.

Clear the check from the "Enable Site Blocking" box at the top of the window to completely disable website blocking in Avast!.

Close the Avast! user interface to return to the desktop.
