How to Empty the Inbox in My iPhone

Updated March 23, 2017

Your iPhone inbox contains all the e-mails that you receive on your device. You can have multiple iPhone in-boxes depending on the number of e-mail accounts you set up. On the iPhone, you can delete e-mail or move it to e-mail folders to empty the inbox. Do this by opening each e-mail individually or by doing a mass deletion or move.

Open the "Mail" application on your iPhone. The button in the top-left corner indicates which inbox you are in. Click this button to change accounts. This is necessary only if you have more than one e-mail account.

Click on an e-mail.

Click on the centre icon that looks like a dustbin on the bottom toolbar to delete the email.

Click on the second icon that looks like a folder with a down arrow to save the email to a folder. Click the target folder to move the email.

Continue this process for all e-mails in your inbox.

Open the "Mail" application on your iPhone. Click the button in the top-left corner if you need to choose from multiple accounts.

Click the "Edit" button in the top-right corner.

Select the e-mails you want to delete by pressing the circle icon to the left of each e-mail. Click the "Delete" button to delete the chosen e-mails.

Select the e-mails you want to move by pressing the circle icon on the left of each e-mail. Click the "Move" button to move these items to a folder. Click the target folder to move these items.

Continue this process for all e-mails in your inbox.

Tip

You can't create new folders on the iPhone, but you can create them through your mail server, and they will appear on the iPhone.
