How to Make a Bow Out of Silk Ribbon

Updated April 17, 2017

Tie a bow from silk ribbon for a decorative accent on gifts, pews for weddings, bouquets, baskets and more. Certain types of bows, such as winged bows, work best with this heavy material. Use silk for a classic and elegant bow that is simple to create by following a few easy steps.

Place the left loose end of the ribbon over the right end of the ribbon, forming a loop below the crossed ends.

Tie the ribbon into a knot by pulling the left end behind the right end, under and through the loop and back up through the loop. Avoid twisting the ribbons while completing this step.

Pull tightly on each end of the ribbon to form a knot.

Smooth out the ends of the ribbon and snip off the excess ribbon into a "V" shape so they won't unravel.
