Nero Express can be used to create DVD5s from DVD9s, but not without a little help from other software programs. Nero Express can burn DVD5 discs, but it cannot rip DVD9 discs. A DVD-ripping program must first be used to rip DVD9 discs before they can burnt to DVD5 using Nero Express. Some of the many programs that can be used to rip DVD9 discs include Magic DVD Ripper, Xilisoft DVD Ripper and AOA DVD Ripper.

Open Magic DVD Ripper and insert the DVD9 you want to rip into your computer's DVD-RW. Other software programs can perform the same task as Magic DVD Ripper, but because the process is essentially the same with other DVD-ripping program, instructions will only be included for using Magic DVD Ripper.
Select the "Source" of your DVD, which is your DVD drive. Choose where the DVD will be saved to your hard drive under "Destination."
Click the circle beside "Split DVD-9 into two DVD-5 discs" under the "Backup" tab. DVD9 discs are able to hold 7.95 gigabytes of data, while DVD5s can only hold 4.38 gigabytes. You will likely need to split the DVD into two parts, and burn each part onto two separate DVD5s.
