How to Make a VGA Monitor into a TV

Updated April 17, 2017

You can quickly turn a VGA monitor into a TV by using a computer TV tuner box. Computer TV tuners are different than TV tuner cards. The computer tuner simply turns your monitor into a TV screen without the use of the computer, while the other TV tuners turn your computer into a TV that is displayed on the monitor. The connection only takes minutes and does not require any special tools.

Plug one end of the VGA cable into the back of the computer monitor. Plug the other end of the VGA cable into the back of the TV tuner box.

Plug the antenna into the RF (Radio Frequency) port on the back of the TV tuner box labelled "Antenna In." To connect your monitor to a cable box, plug the cable wire into the RF port on the cable box labelled "Cable In." Plug the coaxial cable into the RF port of the cable box labelled "Cable out," then plug the other side of the coaxial cable into the port on the tuner box labelled "Antenna In." Plug the cable box's power cord into an electrical socket.

Plug the power cord for the TV tuner box into an electrical wall outlet. Point the remote control at the TV tuner box and press the "Power" button. When using the remote, always point it at the box and not the monitor.
