Your Dyson Ball has served you unfailingly, but even the most infallible of machines requires routine maintenance to continue performing at peak level. Your model Dyson Ball vacuum has at least one filter that requires periodic rinsing to remove dust and other particles that can hinder its performance. Cleaning these filters presents an excellent opportunity as well to wash and scrub the inside of your Dyson Ball clear bin of accumulated grit.

    Filter Maintenance

  1. 1

Depress the button atop the cyclone assembly to detach the clear bin and cyclone assembly from the Dyson Ball vacuum.

  2. 2

Unlatch the clear bin lid, and remove the filter inside. This filter is present in the Dyson Ball DC15, DC24 and DC 25. The DC15 filter is encased in a plastic sleeve. Separate the filter from this sleeve and set the filter aside for the moment.

  3. 3

Look for a button on the front of the ball, at the bottom of the vacuum. The DC15 does not have a button and does not require removal of a filter from its ball.

  4. 4

Press the button on the ball, lift the ball lid and remove the filter inside.

  5. 5

Wash all filters using cold water only. When washing the ball filter, tap it periodically against the side of the sink or other surface to dislodge motor emissions inside the filter. Rinse these filters until only clear water is seen running from them.

  6. 6

Allow all filters to air dry completely. The DC15 filter requires at least 12 hours of air drying. All filters from the DC24 and DC25 require 24 hours of drying time. Do not reinstall any filters until they are dry.

    Clear Bin Maintenance

  1. 1

Depress the button atop the cyclone assembly and remove the clear bin from the vacuum, if it is not already.

  2. 2

Hold the base of the bin over a garbage bag. Press the button just behind the handle to empty the contents of the bin. Allow the bin to empty entirely before removing it from the garbage can or bag.

  3. 3

Unlatch the catch on the front of the clear bin. This catch connects the clear bin to the cyclone assembly.

  4. 4

Separate the clear bin from the cyclone assembly.

  5. 5

Rinse the inside of the bin with cold water only. Use a scrub brush to eliminate stubborn grit from the walls of the bin.

  6. 6

Allow the clear bin to air dry completely before reattaching it to the cyclone assembly and reinstalling it on the vacuum.

Tips and warnings

  • Dyson supplies recommended intervals for cleaning your Ball filter(s). Clean your Dyson DC15 filter at least once every six months. Clean both DC24 filters at least once each month. Clean your Dyson DC25 filter at least once every three months.
